Shomari Figures Represents Everywhere But District 2

While Montgomery fights to keep its safety-net hospital open and Wiregrass families face some of the highest power bills in the South, District 2's congressman spends his weeks in Washington — and votes there like the district that sent him doesn't exist. President Trump carried District 2 by 14 points. Shomari Figures represents it like it belongs to his national party, not the Wiregrass.

Wall of Shame — Today: Vulcan Materials

Today on the Wall of Shame: the Vulcan Materials PAC (Vestavia) has put $10,000 into Rep. Shomari Figures' campaign account. Figures then voted no on cross-border energy infrastructure — the pipeline permitting and construction that drives demand for aggregates. The Wall of Shame exists for one reason — so that total stops growing. https://take2back.com/wall-of-shame.html

The Ground Truth in District 2

Jackson Hospital — Montgomery's 344-bed safety-net hospital, in the heart of District 2 — is in bankruptcy and fighting to keep its doors open; its own CEO says the latest deal solves only about a quarter of the problem. Across the district, families are paying some of the highest power bills in the South after a string of rate increases. That is the reality Figures was sent to Washington to fight for.

His Record Runs the Other Way

On the votes that touch those exact problems, Figures sided with Washington over the Wiregrass. He voted against the tax cut that ended federal taxes on tips and overtime. He voted against American energy — against LNG exports, against reliable natural-gas power, against reversing the lock-ups on coal, oil, and gas leasing. He voted against requiring proof of citizenship to vote. And three separate times he voted against blocking Chinese Communist Party money and influence in K-12 schools.

Represents Everywhere But Here

A limited-government scorecard rates Figures's record at 14 percent — a Washington-liberal voting card with a District 2 return address. His most recent public update to the district he represents highlighted his engagement in Washington, D.C. Everywhere but here.

This Seat Is Winnable

National Democrats put Figures on their "Frontline" list, reserved for their most endangered members, because a Trump+14 district has no business sending this voting record back to Washington. The only thing standing between Shomari Figures and a one-term career is turnout. August 11 sets the Republican nominee. November ends the experiment. Take Back District 2.
