DOBSON CALLS OUT FIGURES ON BALLOT SECURITY
Caroleene Dobson, the Republican nominee for Secretary of State and Shomari Figures' opponent for this seat in 2024, said in a statement reported by Yellowhammer News on October 12 that Figures "has routinely voted against the most basic ballot box protections that have come before Congress and even opposed requiring proof of U.S. citizenship to register to vote."
Dobson said electing Rhett Marques on November 3 "will ensure that honestly cast votes are honestly counted."
THE VOTE
Proof of citizenship. Roll Call 102, April 10, 2025: H.R. 22, the SAVE Act, requiring proof of U.S. citizenship to register to vote in federal elections. Passed 220 to 208. Shomari Figures voted no.
Alabama's five Republicans, Robert Aderholt, Barry Moore, Gary Palmer, Mike Rogers and Dale Strong, voted yes.
WHAT ELSE YELLOWHAMMER REPORTED
Yellowhammer News reported that Figures also voted against at least one other measure requiring documentary proof of citizenship and photo identification to vote.
Yellowhammer News reported that Figures voted against nine bills to secure the border, deport illegal immigrants convicted of felonies including human trafficking, and fund Homeland Security and border protection.
Dobson told Alabama Public Television's Capitol Journal on Friday that as Secretary of State she would create an election integrity division within the office.

Wall of Shame — Today: Protective Life
Today on the Wall of Shame: the Protective Life Corp. Federal PAC (ProtectPAC) (Birmingham) has put $5,000 into Rep. Shomari Figures' campaign account. Two $2,500 checks across the cycle; Figures then voted no on the One Big Beautiful Bill Act — the insurance and tax provisions Protective's own industry supported. The Wall of Shame exists for one reason — so that total stops growing. https://take2back.com/wall-of-shame.html
