Figures Sits On The Ag Committee. He Voted Against The Farm Bill

MARQUES TOOK THE FARM FIGHT TO DALE COUNTY

WTVY reported, in a story carried by WSFA, that Rhett Marques visited a Dale County farm on Wednesday, October 14, with Georgia Congressman Austin Scott, a Republican.

Scott said he would push to place Marques on the House Agriculture Committee if he is elected. "I'm going to do everything I can to put him on the Ag Committee," Scott said, according to WTVY.

"The farmers right now, they're hurting. And we know that," Marques said, according to WTVY. WTVY reported that diesel prices have nearly doubled in recent months, raising costs for farmers.

THE VOTE

On April 30, 2026, the U.S. House passed H.R. 7567, the Farm, Food, and National Security Act, 224 to 200, according to House Clerk roll call 154.

Shomari Figures voted no. All five Alabama Republicans in the House, Robert Aderholt, Barry Moore, Gary Palmer, Mike Rogers and Dale Strong, voted yes. Fourteen Democrats voted yes.

WTVY reported that Figures sits on the House Agriculture Committee, and that the Senate has not moved the bill forward.

"That farm bill was going to help the farmers. The Democrats, including my opponent, voted against that. And that hurt the farmers," Marques said, according to WTVY. "I will work with Congressman Scott and the rest of the Ag Committee to make sure that bill gets passed. Food security is national security."
